My father, David Paul Shorter, passed away on August 23rd. DOB (2.12.42).
Service #: 1862050 My father didn't speak much about his time in the
military. He was a member of 2-5, Foxtrot. In archiving his belongings, I
ran across a military newspaper article that he had cut out and saved.

Pfc. Melvin E. Newlin became the 19th Marine award posthumous Medal of
Honor for bravery.

Is there anyone on the message boards that know Pfc Newlin or my father who
knows more about what happened and why my father would have kept this
article?
