TABACO CITY, Philippines (NNS) -- The U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band performed at the Tabaco City fiesta in Tabaco City to promote good will June 21.
The band is currently embarked aboard USS Peleliu (LHA 5) in support of the Pacific Partnership mission throughout Asia and Oceania.
The Pacific Partnership mission is providing medical care as well as construction and engineering projects in the Republic of the Philippines.
Directed by Marine Gunnery Sgt. Christopher Carpenter, the band's performance was on the front steps of the Tabaco City Hall building. The crowd was packed with people attentively listening to and enjoying the music of the band. Young and old audience members nodded and tapped their feet as the 19-member band played music.
“Performing for everyone here, I mean, it's one of my dreams come true,” said Marine Cpl. Julia Roberts. “Being a musician, I get to go around and spread love of music to everyone, so it's fun!”
The U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band travels around the world as musical ambassadors for the Marine Corps as well as the country as a whole. During this particular mission, the band has been tasked with boosting the morale of the local population through music.
The band will continue to perform during the duration of their time in the Philippines at various locations.
“This is why I play,” said Marine Sgt. Ryan Frost. “This is why I do my job, so I can come here and do things like this for people. It’s really worth it.”
